The Massachusetts Historical Society (MHS) is a major research library and manuscript repository. Its holdings encompass millions of rare and unique documents and artifacts vital to the study of American history, many of them irreplaceable national treasures. A few examples include correspondence between John and Abigail Adams, such as her famous "remember the ladies" letter; several imprints of the Declaration of Independence; and the pen that Abraham Lincoln used to sign the Emancipation Proclamation.

Georgia State University, founded in 1913, has a mission of excellence in teaching, research and service. Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, this major research university has an enrollment of more than 27,000 undergraduate and graduate students in six colleges. Georgia State is the second largest university in the state, with students coming from every county in Georgia, every state in the nation and from over 145 countries.
The Department of English at Georgia State University has nearly 60 full-time faculty, more than 400 undergraduate majors, and approximately 180 graduate student. English is one of the largest and most vibrant departments at GSU. We are proud of the breadth and excellence of our programs, which range from the two-semester Freshman Composition sequence to Ph.D. programs in literary studies, creative writing, and rhetoric and composition. In addition to these traditional specializations, the Department offers course work in linguistics, literary theory, cultural studies, folklore, professional and technical writing (including electronic editing and publishing), and secondary teacher preparation. Faculty also participate regularly in courses offered by the Honors Program, the Department of African American Studies, and the Women's Studies Institute.
