Manuscript Length of "Biblia Americana":

        ather's holograph manuscript at the MHS (in 6 bound folio volumes) consists of his commentary in double columns on all books of the Old and New Testaments. The manuscript is in good condition, though occasional heavy foxing and wear and tear along the edges obscure some of his words. Although the vast majority of the folio pages are of the same size, Mather inserted into "Biblia" hundreds of smaller ms. pages ranging from 130 mm to 350 mm in height and 60 mm to 200mm in width. His many insertions notwithstanding, Mather did not fill each column of his recto and verso pages with his commentary; in fact, he left blank many columns, half or quarter pages--even whole pages--to be filled with additional material as he went along. To determine the approximate size and scope of the manuscript, I have counted as a single unit each page, no matter its size, number of paragraphs, or blank spaces.
